IT is often said that we never fully appreciate what is on our own doorstep. Well, it is definitely true when it comes to Guernsey.
Having grown up on the island, I left more than a decade ago to pursue my career. But returning as a holidaymaker, I realised that I perhaps never fully appreciated the beauty of Guernsey.
The island was bathed in glorious summer sunshine as the plane swooped over its sandy west coast before landing at the modern airport, rebuilt since I left. It is just 75 miles south of mainland Britain.
The fact it was a quick flight and a quick baggage pick-up was a lovely change from the hassle of longer journeys and hectic foreign airports.
And there was no lengthy coach transfers and no need to change money

The first call came in late April.
Megan Duffy, a 21-year-old college student, picked up the phone at her parents’ home in Belmar, N.J., and heard the voice of a debt collector.

PEOPLE in Tamworth are being invited to get fit for free at an exercise session in the Castle Grounds on August 7. The fitness day is being organised by Commando Fitness and takes place from 10.30pm to noon.
It has been organised by fitness instructors Ben ‘Oz’ Holroyd and Jim Clarke to raise cash for the Help For Heroes and Macmillan Cancer Support charities.
